REM's Levels of Participation |
| Level of Participation | Description | REM's Obligations | Annual Dues |
|---|---|---|---|
| REMnet Subscriber | Member wants to know what is happening in REM, will keep in touch by reading messages, and will help out when he or she can. Messages are delivered via e-mail, postal mail, or both, according to the member's preference. The dues cover the cost of delivery. | REM will establish members on the REM Community Network, or REMnet, or send printouts of e-mail messages via U.S. mail. (Members without computers may set up free e-mail accounts at the REM office and may check messages at office (during office hours) or at area libraries and other sites.) |
|
| Active Volunteer | Member is serving or intends to serve as an active REM community volunteer. REM will keep in touch by e-mail, postal mail, or both, according to the member's preference. | REM will provide all benefits given to a REMnet Subscriber, plus meeting space, equipment, and organizational support for work on any REM project, including disseminating agendas, meeting schedules, and minutes of meetings. | $5 |
| Leader | Member is or intends to be a leader of a REM Team. | REM will provide all services given to an Active Volunteer plus leadership training and supplies and ongoing support from the Custodial and Operational Divisions of REM, including event hosting, fundraising, and communications. | $5 |
The lower levels of participation are incremental. If you become a Leader, you must also become an Active Volunteer; and if you become an Active Volunteer, you must also subscribe to REMnet (by e-mail, postal mail, or both.) The online membership form takes care of this for you automatically. If you donate $50.00 to the REM Fund or join as a Sponsor, Consortium Member of REM Partner, we will waive leader, volunteer, and REMnet e-mail dues. (Note: The fee to subscribe to REMnet by postal mail is not waived, regardless of your level of participation.) | |||
| REM Fund Investor | A gift by any REM member that goes directly to community projects, rather than operating expenses. | REM is its members. This fund is not about paying our bills just so we can exist. It is about investing in our future. This fund expresses what REM means to all of us and determines what we will be able to do together. | Member determined, an expression of the heart. |
| Sponsor (REM has four levels of sponsorship, listed in the rightmost column.) | A business or individual donor who helps pay REM's administrative costs, including salaries, rent, and utilities. (Sponsorship is primarily a monetary involvement, with no expectations from REM for volunteer involvement.) | REM lists sponsors on written materials by their level of giving, unless the sponsor requests anonymity. REM encourages its members and other people in the community to support sponsors to thank them for their dedication to community service. The sponsor may choose whether or not to receive routine communications from REM. |
|
| Consortium Member | Businesses and individuals who help pay REM's rent, utilities, and other operating costs, so that gifts from other members of the community may go directly to community projects. | REM facilitates relationships among this group of large businesses and educates the community as to the impact of the businesses' community service on the quality of life in our region. Without them, REM cannot exist. (A consortium member may choose whether or not to receive routine communications from REM.) | $2000 + |
| REM Partner | A school, hospital, church, or other nonprofit organization that works with REM to coordinate events, encourage volunteerism, identify and meet community needs, and discover new ways to improve the quality of life in Central Maine. Each partner organization must designate two of its leaders as contact people for REM. | REM will convene the partners, providing meeting space, quipment, scheduling, and communication. Also: poster distribution, ½ price rental of spaces at The Center, free meeting space, the right to have a volunteer of the partner's own choosing honored at an annual REM awards ceremony, and emergency e-mail alerts through REMnet. | At least $50 |
