Hospice Volunteers – Camp Ray of Hope (Sept. 18-20)Camp Ray of Hope is accepting registrations for the fall session, which runs September 18-20. Camp Ray of Hope is an annual retreat held at Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop that is for Maine families and individuals who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives. Attendees can meet other people from throughout the state who are also in the midst of transition from loss by death. Children and adults participate with their peers in support groups, workshops that encourage healthy outlets, and self care. Campers can also fish, canoe and enjoy the peaceful and unspoiled surroundings. Massage therapists, Reiki practitioners, reflexologists, manicurists and other care providers donate sessions to campers of all ages. Camp Ray of Hope was first offered by Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area in 1995 and continues to be the only one of its kind in Maine. Applicants from throughout the state are considered. The cost is $60.00 per person, or $180.00 for a family of three or more. Scholarships are available. Donations for scholarships are gratefully accepted. Call Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area serves 27 communities in Central Maine. It provides non-medical support to individuals and their families during the last phases of life and to loved ones throughout their grieving and educates the community on issues related to death and grieving. Bereavement services are available to anyone who has sustained loss either through illness or unexpectedly. HVWA is volunteer-based and community funded.
