Maine Development Foundation – Domestic Violence and Its Impact on Business (June 16)The Maine Development Foundation is pleased to invite you to our third "Leadership Unplugged" event on Tuesday, June 16, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Hampton Inn, 425 Kennedy Memorial Drive, Waterville. This session is entitled "Domestic Violence and Its Impact on Business" and features Scott Bullock, CEO of MaineGeneral Health, and Gary Hammond, owner of Hammond Tractor. They are joining us to discuss their experiences with domestic violence in the workplace and what they are doing to minimize its impact with their employees. To help our membership and our large network of Leadership Maine Alumni to stay connected and learn about current economic issues, we created the "Leadership Unplugged" series. This series is designed to be a conversation with Maine leaders around issues of economic importance. It is an opportunity for you to come together with other leaders in a more intimate, relaxed setting to build relationships and enhance our ability to move Maine forward. So far, we have hosted two sessions — one in Portland on Early Childhood Investment, and one in Brunswick on the current Legislative Session. Both events were well attended and well received. Some might wonder why MDF, an organization whose mission is long-term economic development, is sponsoring a forum on a topic many would consider to be a "social" issue. In reality, domestic violence is very much an economic issue as the productivity of both the perpetrator and the victim, as well as the co-workers around them, is diminished. We simply can not achieve our vision of a "High Quality of Life for all Maine People" unless we recognize, understand and deal with the impact of domestic violence on the workplace and the economic performance of our businesses and organizations. Follow this link for further details and registration materials. Seating is limited, so please register by June 10. If you have questions, contact Cheryl Miller at cmiller@mdf.org or |
