Kennebec Behavioral Health – Healthy Family Fun Concert (Aug. 18, 2012)
Kennebec Behavioral Health will host a Healthy Family Fun Concert to benefit the Halcyon House Emergency Shelter for Youth from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., August 18 at the Augusta Waterfront Park.
Kee'd Up with Terrie Kee, the Jonah Howard Band and Acoustic Chi are among the musicians to perform throughout the day. Vendors will sell hamburgers, hot dogs and fried dough. There will be a bounce house, face painting and other activities for the very young. The concert, held at a gazebo in the tree-lined park, is "rain or shine."
The Halcyon House, operated by KBH, is a youth shelter that takes in homeless and runaway youths ages 10 through 17, as well as kids of those ages who are at risk of homelessness. Program goals are to alleviate the problems and risks of homeless youth, help them move toward stable living options and supports, and reduce homelessness. The shelter is supported by the United Way of Kennebec Valley and the United Way of Mid-Maine.
Concert tickets are $3 for individuals and $5 for a family. Halcyon House hopes that businesses will step forward as concert sponsors for $100, $250, $500, or $1,000. All proceeds will go toward operational costs and material upgrades at the Skowhegan shelter, which serves youths from across the state. Concert sponsors thus far are Healey & Associates, Skowhegan National Bank, Kennebec Technologies, Hammond Tractor, Oxford Networks, J.S. McCarthy Printers and Guimond Builders.
KBH thanks the United Way of Kennebec Valley for funds that allow for the purchase of new furniture for the house, and the United Way of Mid-Maine for its operational support of the shelter. To get tickets or to sponsor the event, call Jody Bucknam at
