Kennebec Messalonskee Trails – National Trails Day (June 2)
Kennebec Messalonskee Trails, the City of Waterville, and Waterville Main Street will host a walk and celebration of the opening of the Waterville Connector Trail and the Two-Cent Plaza on National Trails Day, Saturday June 2.
This trail is unique in many ways. For instance:
An informational kiosk can be found at the Two-Cent Plaza overlooking the Kennebec within earshot of Ticonic Falls.
The free event will start at 10:00 a.m. at two locations. A 2-mile walk will start at the North Street end, opposite MaineGeneral's Thayer campus Emergency Room entrance. Walkers will proceed south towards Head of Falls. For those with limited mobility or in wheelchairs, the event will start at the parking lot of the Pleasant Street Methodist Church, and proceed 0.4 miles along Park Street, across the Concourse, down Temple Street to Head of Falls.
A celebration will take place at Two-Cent Plaza at about 11:00 a.m. Following the event, all will be invited to enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants in downtown Waterville, and to participate in the Health and Wellness activities throughout the downtown, hosted by Waterville Main Street. At 2:00 p.m. REM will host the REM Awards at the Waterville Opera House - a free event honoring volunteerism (more details at http://www.rem1.org/remnet/detail.html?id=1432)
