Waterville Opera House Celebrate the Re-Opening! (April 2012)

Tickets Now on Sale!

The auditorium is filling up for both Opening Night on April 27 and Bob Marley on April 28, but there are still great seats available for both events. Perhaps you would like to be the first person to sit in one of our brand new balcony seats? (Pictures below!)

We have a quick programming change as well. The Downtown Sounds concert on May 18 featuring Cathy Kreger has been cancelled, as Ms. Kreger's tour route has changed. We hope that she will be able to join us in the studio in the future.

The renovations make great strides everyday in preparation for the reopening. We will see you on April 27 and 28!

Celebrate the reopening of the Waterville Opera House with this special performance!

Opening Night is a collection of entertainment celebrating the wide array of performing arts featured at the Waterville Opera House. The event is scheduled to include:
     * a film from the Maine International Film Festival demonstrating new projection equipment and the permanently installed screen;
     * Bossov Ballet Theatre presenting Circus, an original piece choreographed by Andrei Bossov to the music of Dmitri Shostakovich;
     * many stellar past performers, including Sharon Buck, Dan Kennedy, and Lauren Sterling singing a selection of songs from Opera House musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar, The Full Monty, Oklahoma, and many more! Gerry Wright and an orchestra full of local talent will provide accompaniment.
This evening will welcome audiences back to the Opera House, unveil its numerous improvements, and recognize the rich history of the theater.

Sponsored in part by Belgrade Lakes Resources, LLC; Central Maine Motors; Inland Hospital; Kennebec Savings Bank; MaineGeneral Health; Plum Creek Timber Co.; and Nicholson, Michaud, & Company.

Skippyjon Jones

Presented by TheatreWorks USA

Wednesday, May 2 at 9:30am and 12 noon

Recommended for grades K-3

Main Stage

Skippyjon Jones is a little kitten with big ears and even bigger dreams! Sometimes he pretends to be a bird, sometimes he pretends to be a llama, and sometimes he pretends to be a whale...anything BUT a Siamese cat! Based on the books by Judy Schachner, Skippyjon Jones is an enchanting musical about unleashing your powerful imagination and following your dreams.
Though this performance is offered as a school show, the public is invited to attend. Please call 873-7000 in advance to reserve tickets.

Behind the Curtain...

In under 48 hours, the balcony went from 0 seats to 447 seats! We were all impressed by how quickly the crew from Irwin Seating worked, but they said this was small job compared to redoing thousands of seats in stadiums.

The balcony before Irwin's workers arrived. (The red orchestra seats made the trip to the balcony so we could check sightlines.)
The stanchions between seats are installed. The armrests came next.
All of the comfortable, level seats are now in! The last step - and perhaps one of the most time-consuming - was individually nailing on the seat numbers.
