Waterville Area Artists and Artisans Invited to Join New Mid-Maine Arts GroupBy Judy Judkins WATERVILLE -- WAAAND, the Waterville Area Artists Angel Network for Dreamers, has recently won a grant of $1000 from the Maine Community Foundation to build a network of artists and craftspeople who are dedicated to community-building. WAAAND's mission is to forge a link between local artists, businesses, and non-profit organizations which will benefit our community. WAAAND's idea, the brainstorm of Carrie Haberstock, is for artists to organize exhibits and a Web site of local artists' works. Each artist will donate a percentage of each sale to the local charity or non-profit organization of the customer's choice. Our first group exhibit was at the Nevola Symposium on June 13, where seven founding members showed works to the "Healing and the Arts" conference. (Editor's Note: The 2000 symposium was hosted by REM at the Center and was catered by Dreamers' Café.) WAAAND's next event is the Oct 14th Octoberfest being sponsored by the City and the Downtown Business Association. We are also planning a Trash to Treasure show to coincide with Maine Recycles Week , Nov 8 - 15th, coordinated by the Maine State Planning Office's Waste Management & Recycling Program. For more information about WAAAND, e-mail Carrie Haberstock.
